About Object Generator
In ANSYS Workbench, during the preprocessing of structural models, there is a tool called Object Generator. It is an automation tool specifically designed for batch creation of repetitive objects, which can significantly reduce repetitive and similar preprocessing work, avoiding the tediousness and errors of manual individual settings. I believe there are three scenarios where this Object Generator can be utilized.
- Batch creation of connections between models: batch generation of beam connections, contacts, springs, and joints.
- Batch application of constraints and loads: applying identical constraints or loads to large numbers of repetitive faces and edges.
- Batch mesh control: setting unified mesh control methods for regions with identical features.

Case Study
In ANSYS Workbench, use a structural statics module.

The geometric model contains two parts, each with 15 holes. Each pair of holes in the upper and lower parts is connected by springs.

Insert a Spring in the Connection.

Set the end faces of the spring.

This completes the creation of one spring. Then the remaining springs need to be created. Of course, you can still manually create them one by one using the method described earlier, but this is cumbersome and time-consuming when there are too many.

Here you can try to use the
Object Generator tool to batch create the remaining springs. Before using the
Object Generator tool, you need to first create named Selections for the holes. Left-click on a circular hole face of the upper part.

Then find Create in Selection in the toolbar.

Name it arbitrarily, here define its name as up, and select both Size and Location Y, which means the software will select all circular hole faces in the Y direction that have the same position and size as the selected circular hole face.

After completion, you can see that up contains all circular hole faces of the upper part.

Using the same method, define all circular hole faces of the lower part as down.

In Connections, left-click the spring that has already been created.

Then find Automation-Object Generator in the toolbar and open it.

Here, use up and down as the upper and lower faces of the spring connection, and set the Distance to 70mm to create spring connections identical to the current spring within this range.

After Generate, all springs are automatically created in batch.

If there are similar beam connections, contacts, or joint connections in the model, you can use this method to quickly batch process them. Furthermore, if you need to perform mesh refinement on a large number of circular hole areas, you can first perform mesh Sizing on one circular hole, and then use
Object Generator for batch processing.
