In ANSYS Workbench, if you want to perform a position-limiting operation on a certain part, for example, allowing it to have a displacement degree of freedom in a certain direction, but only allowing a maximum displacement of 5mm. After reaching 5mm, the degree of freedom in that direction becomes 0. This can be achieved using the joint motion pair feature.

Directly use a structural statics module in ANSYS Workbench for testing.

The test model is simply a block.

Insert a Joint in the Joints section of the left tree to create a motion pair.

Set the detailed properties of this motion pair in the Details panel.

- Connection Type is Body-Ground, a motion pair between the part and ground
- The motion pair type is Translational, only allowing movement along the X direction
- Scope is 1 Face, the motion pair acts on the left face of the block
- Behavior is Deformable, flexible connection, the coupled left face allows local deformation
- Stops-X Max Type is Lock, enabling positive direction position limiting, maximum displacement in the positive X direction is limited to 5mm, negative X direction displacement is unlimited

Apply a displacement load on the right face of the block, moving this face 6mm to the left, to test and verify whether the left face of the block is displacement-limited when it moves 5mm.

The calculation results show that after the block moves 5mm, the left face is displacement-limited, while the right face still has 1mm of displacement remaining, causing the block to be compressed.
